Thank you for your interest in Linwood Avenue School. Our school has a strong place within the Linwood community, situated as it is within the heart of the retail and business area. The school has a proud history of successfully responding to and meeting the needs of its children, and working alongside parents and the wider community.
Like many modern primary schools, we cater for a diverse range of students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. To do that successfully we rely on working well as a team, maintaining strong relationships between staff and children, and with our families. We also benefit from very good working relationships with educational agencies and helping organisations across our community, including the Salvation Army, our school social worker and Sport Canterbury.
Our learning programmes are well planned, and based on considered beliefs about what makes the greatest difference to children's learning and development. We not only use educational research but we also make good use of our own experience from working with our children over time. We take an innovative approach and look for ways to improve how effectively we meet our children's needs. This is especially true for our core subjects of English and mathematics.
Children benefit from a wide range of opportunities, including sport, music and various cultural activities. We place a strong emphasis on building life skills and character, based on an agreed set of school values and our school learning competencies.
I have the good fortune of working with a dedicated and skilful staff team, as well as a highly supportive board of trustees and parent community. I look forward to the opportunities we have to learn more about what works best for our children and community, and to put this learning into practice.

"Success through Learning"
Our school's underlying aim for children is that they experience success in their school life. We want them to develop the interests, knowledge and skills that will serve them well in their future. In addition, we aim to strengthen them as learners, with the tools they will need for further success in schooling, and life beyond school. We hope they leave us with an appreciation of the power of learning.
This is a complex and challenging aim, but it should be the main reason we open the gates at school each day.
"Empowering children to aim high, persevere and succeed while making a positive contribution to the world."
We expect children to experience success and to develop a positive view of themselves and their world.
We provide children with a wide variety of experiences and learning programmes, to help them form their skills, knowledge and understanding. We have a focus on the qualities of being a “Linwood Learner” that will support the children in pursuing their interests and building on their strengths.
